Mariposa
Close to Yosemite, convenient to all of California
The historic gold mining town of Mariposa is indeed a special place. Home to distinctive shops, excellent restaurants and dozens of
historic sites, Mariposa is nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills close to Yosemite National Park.
The MARIPOSA COURTHOUSE, built in 1854, is the oldest functioning courthouse in California. It has been in continuous use all these
many years.
THE CALIFORNIA STATE MINERAL MUSEUM, with world class exhibits including a walk through mine tunnel, attracts visitors
from around the globe.
A WALK THROUGH THE HISTORIC DOWNTOWN includes the old jail. Built in the 1860’s, it has walls 2 &
1/2 feet thick. Also part of that walk: the Trabucco Warehouse that survived the great 1866 fire and the Mariposa Museum & History
Center with displays of Native American artifacts and early life in Mariposa.
OTHER AMENITIES: While visitors are amazed at the history all around them, those fortunate enough to live in Mariposa enjoy all the
luxuries of the 21st century: nearby golf courses, municipal swimming pool, airport, fine schools, a modern hospital, mass transit
and close proximity to the newest campus of the University of California.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: Yosemite is a half hour
away on Highway 140, the main central corridor to the park. The nearby Merced River offers great fishing and other water activities
including rafting, swimming & gold panning. Mariposa’s Central Sierra, Central California location assures its convenience to
visitors from both Northern & Southern California.
